Tours and transfersLuxor at a glance
Luxor is easier to enjoy when the East and West Banks have their own time. Alternate exposed temples and tombs with museums or a Nile outing rather than trying to visit every site in one long day.
- Good for
- Ancient Egyptian history, temple architecture and slower Nile stays.
- Suggested stay
- Allow three days for both banks and a less hurried visit; add a day for Dendera and Abydos.
- Plan around
- Your hotel location, travel dates and activity level.
Best time to visit Luxor
The cooler months are generally more comfortable for exposed archaeological sites. In summer, begin land visits early and plan indoor or hotel time during the hottest hours.
Where to stay in Luxor
- East Bank: useful for town services, Luxor Temple and many hotels.
- West Bank: a quieter base close to the necropolis, with separate river-crossing logistics.
- Cruise docks: give the actual ship and dock, not only the cruise company name.
Getting to and around Luxor
Specify Luxor International Airport, railway station or cruise dock. Include your hotel's bank of the Nile; a boat crossing and a road transfer are different arrangements.

If you have one day
Choose an East Bank temple route or a focused West Bank visit. A full two-bank day is possible only with a more selective pace.
Day 1
Karnak and Luxor Temple on the East Bank.
Day 2
Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut on the West Bank.
Day 3
Choose museums, a felucca or a quieter West Bank site.

Practical tips for your visit
Local considerations
Tomb entry varies by ticket and site. Decide which places matter most before buying a package, and leave time to look closely rather than counting stops.
Families and access needs
Expect uneven ground and limited shade at many sites. Tomb passages and balloon boarding have distinct physical requirements; ask about the actual route and alternatives.
Day trips from Luxor
Dendera and Abydos form a separate road excursion. Edfu and Kom Ombo head in another direction and should not be added casually to an already full bank tour.
